Karim Ali

Karim is a Fellow Chartered Health and Safety Professional of both the Australian Institute of Health and Safety (AIHS) and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). He is a Work Health and Safety (WHS) Expert Witness and Principal Consultant at SafetyDeeds Pty Ltd, as well as a tutor at Western Sydney University. Karim also participates in the AIHS Policy and Advocacy Committee and chairs the Clean Energy Council (CEC) Wind Industry Safety Forum. He holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in HSE Management and Mechanical Engineering, respectively, along with diplomas in OHS/WHS management. Additionally, Karim is a certified project manager (PMP), change and risk manager (PMI-RMP), and a qualified lead auditor, trainer, assessor, and investigator. Furthermore, Karim is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accredited by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). With a career spanning over 18 years, Karim has effectively managed HSE risks in some of the most challenging and high-risk industries worldwide. His dedication to personal growth and ongoing development remains strong, and he continually seeks to expand his knowledge through education, training and vocational qualifications.

Celia Antonovsky

Celia is a passionate and experienced health and safety professional who looks for opportunities to progress the standing of the profession. She has worked across a variety of high risk sectors in Australia and New Zealand including oil and gas, construction, mining, rail and marine. In her day job, she currently holds a senior leadership position with an international public transport provider. Through this role she is striving to improve safety outcomes internally, as well as within the industry.

In her volunteer capacity, Celia has been a member elected Director for the past three years and has recently accepted the role of Company Secretary for the AIHS. To complement this, she leads the committee representing the WA chapter of the AIHS and is motivated to create a thriving local network. She is extremely passionate about promoting the virtues of the Body Of Knowledge as a fundamental asset underpinning the profession in Australia.

Celia has a Bachelor of Psychology and a Masters of Occupational Health and Safety. These qualifications have supported several opportunities to participate in industry leading projects including psychosocial hazard management and process safety.

Kym Bancroft

Kym Bancroft is the Managing Director of New View Safety, a boutique safety science consultancy that partners with organisations to transform their safety culture and elevate operational performance. Through a human centred, evidence based approach, New View Safety helps businesses embed modern safety practices that drive high reliability, operational excellence, and positive workplace cultures.

With over 25 years of international Health and Safety leadership, Kym holds a Master’s in Safety Leadership and a Master’s in Applied Organisational Psychology. As an Organisational Psychologist, she integrates psychological insight with safety innovation to deliver sustainable, people first transformation.

Her career spans high risk sectors and global contexts, from open cut mining in Canada to offshore gas in the United States, as well as utilities, infrastructure, and major projects across the Asia Pacific region. She previously served as Deputy Director General and Regulator for Workplace Health & Safety, Electrical Safety, and Workers’ Compensation in Queensland, and has held executive safety leadership roles with Serco Asia Pacific and Queensland Urban Utilities.

Kym’s thought leadership has featured in the Doing Safety Differently documentary alongside Prof. Sidney Dekker, and she is widely recognised for championing restorative just culture, learning driven safety, and the integration of modern safety science into complex organisations.

Jane Bourke

Jane was appointed Director of Woolworths Safety, Health and Wellbeing in March 2022.

Jane is a globally accomplished professional with extensive leadership experience developing and executing strategy to drive sustainable business performance. She is known for her engaging and energetic style, achievement focus and determination for business success.

Jane works best in transformation and high-change roles in complex environments which require a strong risk based approach with business acumen. She has significant experience with HSE transformation; Mergers and Acquisitions; Retail; multi-billion dollar construction programs; oil and gas (onshore and offshore); transport, logistics and warehousing (first, middle and last mile).

Jane’s experience has taken her to senior roles within Global companies (Amazon, BP) as well as Australia’s ASX Top 20 companies (Origin Energy, Telstra) in addition she has had considerable experience working as a Senior OH&S Consultant in a diverse range of organisations with varying risk profiles.

Jane thrives on working internationally, she lived in the UK, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and USA, she has a proven track record of managing within diverse cultures. She is tertiary qualified in health and safety, and Ergonomics/Human factors which is complemented with a Masters of Business Administration from Australia's leading MBA school (Melbourne Business School).

Debra Burlington

Debra has been consulting in the field of OHS for over 25 years. Her vision has consistently been to offer a service which addresses complex issues such as leading people, learning, change in a fun and practical manner. A key emphasis is on partnership 'with' rather than expert 'to'. She is currently the Practice Lead – Leadership and Culture for Risk Strategies.

Debra has key skills in the creation and implementation of approaches to complex issues in a planned, consultative manner. Over the past 25 years she has partnered with companies such as Toll on a global level, Holcim and CSR across Australia and New Zealand, Baptcare and Melbourne City Mission.
She has authored a book on Impactful Leadership – one Conversation at a Time and holds a Grad. Dip. in OHS Management, a Grad. Dip. in Business Management and a Degree in Social Work. She is a certified Master NLP Practitioner and Meta Coach. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Health and Safety, assisted to establish the AIHS’s mentoring program and has contributed to two chapters of the Body of Knowledge. (BOK)

Jeremy Clay

Jeremy Clay is an experienced health and safety professional with over two decades of experience. He is based in Melbourne as a EHS Manager for Cushman & Wakefield, a global real estate firm. Jeremy has worked across a wide range of industries including chemical importation and distribution, local government facilities maintenance including major events such as the Grand Prix, and retail, where he served as Risk and Compliance Manager at the Kmart Group. Prior to relocating to Victoria, he held the position of General Manager People and Safety at Southern Cross Support Services, a Child Protection and NDIS Company. Jeremy is a Certified OHS Professional and Practitioner and a Fellow of the AIHS.

Richard Coleman

Meet Richard, a seasoned professional with 30 years’ experience in senior WHS, HR and Operational roles. Richard is the founder and Managing Director of Culturology and a Senior Consultant with Lloyd Jones Meakin Group. Engaging, entrepreneurial, and irreverent, Richard is on a lifelong journey of learning and making a lasting impact.

Richard has held key WHS leadership positions at Boral, Telstra, Asciano and most recently Laing O'Rourke Australia. As a consultant he has supported a range of Blue Chip clients including CFA, Tomra-Cleanaway, Westpac, Woolworths and Wesfarmers, Richard's commitment to continuous improvement is evident in his formal education, including a Company Directors Course from AICD, a Master of OHS from Sydney University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Relations/Politics from UNSW.

Richard's journey reflects an unwavering dedication to shaping cultures, fostering safety, and driving positive change. As a Board member of the AIHS, Richard is focused on ensuring that the organisation is responsive to members, active in national WHS debates and uses its resources efficiently.

Simon Coleman

Simon Coleman joined Ampcontrol as the General Manager Health, Safety, Environment, & Quality in 2018. Prior to Ampcontrol, Simon has over 20 years’ experience in Mining & Resources, Automotive, and Government sectors with Rio Tinto, Ford Motor Company & Victoria Government.

Across the various sectors and roles, his focus on improving organisational culture, leadership development, health & wellbeing, and fostering a mature risk management approach has built a reputation for delivering sustained improvement.  He is passionate about developing leaders and teams in large organisations, and high-risk sectors, to be capable of achieving ongoing improved Health & Wellbeing, Safety, Environment, Community and Quality outcomes. Over the past 2 decades Simon has also been actively involved in developing and mentoring emerging HSEQ professionals.

Simon is a Certified Professional Member (AIHS), a Graduate of Australia Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), and holds tertiary qualifications in WH&S management, Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Therapy.  Simon is a non-executive director of a NFP and has been a judge for AIHS in 2021.

Margaret Cook

Associate Professor Margaret Cook is currently employed as the Program Leader for Occupational Health and Safety Education, within the University of Queensland, Australia. Margaret initially qualified as an Occupational Therapist and completed higher degrees in Occupational Health and Safety and Ergonomics. She is a Certified Human Factors and Ergonomics Professional and a Chartered OHS Professional. She holds a range of Ministerial Appointments, acting as an expert on Government Panels and Committees, and is a Director and Chair of the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia.

Kate Curtain

Kate is a senior work health and safety lawyer at Kingston Reid, Australia’s largest specialist workplace law firm. Based in Sydney, Kate works with clients on all aspects of work health and safety laws, including compliance, incident investigation (internal and regulatory) and legal proceedings. Kate is a longstanding member of the Australian Institute of Health and Safety and is currently Co-Chair for the New South Wales Branch.

Timothy Driscoll

Tim Driscoll is an occupational epidemiologist and a specialist in occupational and environmental medicine and public health medicine. He is Professor in the Sydney School of Public Health at the University of Sydney and a medical advisor at the Asbestos and Dust Diseases Research Institute. Tim’s main areas of interest include the burden of occupational disease and injury; occupational cancer and exposure to occupational carcinogens, particularly asbestos and silica; occupational lung disease; and improving the communication of epidemiological principles and findings to the general public.

Sarah-Jane Dunford

Sarah-Jane Dunford is a successful and practiced safety consultant and international speaker with two decades of hands on experience in workplace health and Safety. SJ is the founder and Director of Riskology, a boutique WHS consultancy. SJ was founder of the Hunter Safety Awards, and the NSW Regional Safety Conference and Expo where she promoted WHS innovation and excellence in the region.

SJ was appointed judge and founding Chairperson of the AWHSA during its inception and since that time she has served as judge each year of the AWHSA.

Michael Eather

Michael is a Director of MicroRisk Group who specialise in major hazards and dangerous goods, aiming to bridge the gap between regulation and practice with pragmatic risk advice which is outcome-focused.

Michael is a Chartered OHS Professional (ChOHSP) and has extensive experience in high-hazard industries. Prior to co-founding MicroRisk Group in 2022, Michael held a number of technical and senior leadership roles within WorkSafe Victoria. Michael was the Director of WorkSafe’s inter-agency High Risk Dangerous Goods Taskforce; strategically responding to the varying challenges presented by such complex and high-profile events such as the aftermath of the 2018 West Footscray fire. Prior to joining WorkSafe, Michael spent ten years working in the petrochemical sector in maintenance, operational and safety roles.

In 2023, Michael’s contribution to health and safety was acknowledged by the Australian Institute of Health & Safety who admitted him to the Institute’s College of Fellows.

Michael is currently serving member of the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board.

Christine Edwards

Christine has over 20 years’ experience as a Senior HSE professional working across Health, Construction, Logistics, Rail and Electricity.

She also sits on the Standards Australia committee for Safety Management Systems and is a member of the AIHS NSW Committee.

Tim Gilchrist

Tim is a people-centric leader with acumen and experience in the fields of health, safety, business, marketing and communications. Through the application of a pluralist skillset, Tim brings a unique and balanced view to safety strategy and leadership. Tim worked as a consultant across a broad set of industries for 10 years, before moving to in-house health and safety leadership roles.

Tim currently carries out the role of Head of Zero Harm - Operations for Downer Group, leading a team of Health and Safety Professionals to support an international portfolio of 13,000 employees and 2,000 service delivery partners. Tim has been involved in various committees with the AIHS and is a Fellow with the institute. Tim also volunteers with Universities as a guest lecturer and enjoys paying it forward for the next generation of safety professionals.

Katrina Johnston

Katrina has built a reputation as a pioneer of workplace wellness in Australia. She has over 28 years’ experience in the development and implementation of multi-award winning wellness solutions for small to large organisations across the globe. She develops result-oriented strategies based on her unique combination of experience both as a strategist and at the coalface as an inhouse Wellness Manager for the likes of adidas UK, Ramsay Health Care and Queensland Rail and Department of Education. When she’s not helping her clients, you’ll find Katrina relaxing in a yoga pose, enjoying a nice glass of Barossa Shiraz or planning her next travel adventure with her family.

Brett Jones

Brett is a Fellow of the AIHS (FAIHS) and Graduate of the Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). He has more than 25 years’ experience working in WHS roles across numerous industries, including construction, resources, government operations, transport, aviation, water, and manufacturing. Brett has represented Industry Associations and Professional bodies on expert panels and regulatory reviews, and has been volunteering for the SIA/AIHS for 20 years in many roles, including the previous Chair of the AIHS Queensland Branch. His current role is Operations Manager & Principal WHS Consultant for GCG Health Safety & Hygiene, a leading Australian WHS and Occupational Hygiene consultancy.

Brett’s experience also includes WHS consultancy and auditing work throughout Australia and in many overseas jurisdictions (Middle East, UK, US, Europe, South-East Asia). Brett is an experienced developer and auditor of WHS management systems, and is an Exemplar Global Certified WHS Auditor, a WHS Qld Accredited WHS Auditor (Construction), and an Australian Government appointed Federal Safety Officer (FSO).

Naomi Kemp

Naomi is the CEO and Co-founder of fr&nk Capability Leaders. She is dedicated to building capability and shaping health and safety for the new world of work. With over 20 years of experience in delivering strategic advice to national/global companies, boards and business leaders, she excels in optimising how organisations approach health, safety and leadership. As the immediate past Chair of the AIHS and an Expert Member of Queensland’s WHS Board, she continues to influence national conversations on leadership, regulation, and wellbeing at work.

Gloria Kyriacou Morosinotto

Gloria is an OHS expert with 25 years’ experience across commercial construction, transport, and manufacturing. She spent over a decade as a lecturer and course coordinator in undergraduate and postgraduate OHS programs at RMIT University and remains passionate about educating future professionals.

As Director of Contract Safety Solutions P/L, Gloria is a highly regarded HSEQ and HR consultant, working across diverse industries. She has been a long-standing consultant for the WorkSafe OHS Essentials Program, contributing for over 15 years.

She is the Founder and Chief Organiser of the AIHS OHS Construction Forum, which has run in Melbourne for the past 16 years. Gloria also serves on the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board (AOHSEAB), auditing and accrediting tertiary OHS programs to ensure educational excellence.

In addition to authoring Chapter 29: Mobile Plant of the HaSPA Body of Knowledge, she has published multiple papers on health and safety.

Xin Li

Xin Li is the current Chair of the Australian Institute of Health and Safety ACT Branch and a fellow of the AIHS. As a leader in health and safety across multiple industry sectors, Xin has a strong passion for recognising leading professional standards and practices through awards. Having previously led state, national, and international committees in the health and safety profession, Xin continuously promotes the importance of developing and recognising professionalism to improve the health and safety industry. Xin is honoured by participating in the judging process for the 2025 Australian Workplace Health and Safety Awards and looks forward to reviewing all the fantastic submissions.

Laura Maddock

Laura has been the health and safety advisor for a plantation forest management company in Tasmania since 2017, where she leads their safety team. Prior to this she spent over 20 years in the tertiary sector in a range of disciplines. Laura holds a Masters degree in Occupational Health and Safety and a range of vocational qualifications. She has been a member of the AIHS Tas branch committee for for over 8 years and was the immediate past chair (2021 – 2024).  Laura also sits on a number of forest industry safety committees at state and national levels and has assisted in reviewing and creating a number of safety modules for both tertiary and VET courses. Her commitment is to a holistic approach to wellbeing, health and safety with a focus on assisting people to become the best they can be as safety leaders.

Rod Maule

Rod Maule brings over two decades of transformational safety leadership experience across Australia's most complex operating environments. Rod has been General Manager of Safety and Wellbeing at several organisations most recently Australia Post. In his executive safety positions across logistics, public transport, healthcare, and manufacturing, Rod has consistently delivered sustainable safety performance improvements through cultural transformation and capability building. Rod is now a Strategic Advisory and Safety Executive Consultant with The Safe Step, Rod helps organisations navigate the evolving safety landscape. His unique blend of operational and strategic experience, combined with his current role as a director of the Australian Institute of Safety, gives him valuable insight into both emerging challenges and practical solutions.

His governance experience includes advisory roles to multiple boards, including his current position on the Ambulance Victoria Board People and Culture Committee and previous board advisory positions with Vision Australia and Harbour City Ferries, bringing a depth of understanding to safety oversight at the highest organisational levels. Fiona McCarthy

As an occupational therapist working in injury management, Fiona McCarthy committed to early intervention and injury prevention. She holds post-graduate Master's Degrees in Ergonomics, Safety and Health and Human Bioethics. Further qualifications include ICAM, Lead Auditor and APHIRM Toolkit training. She has extensive industry experience and has led safety and wellbeing functions in Government, Higher Education, Health and Aged Care. Fiona is a full member of the Human Factors Society of Australia and holds Professional Certification with AIHS (COHSP). She consults in OH&S and Ergonomics.

David Ninnes

David joined Westpac in 2014 as the Group Head of Health Safety and Wellbeing and is presently the Group Head of Accountability. Prior to this, David was the Director Risk Management for Asia Pacific at InterContinental Hotels Group.

David is an advisor to regulators on matters such as safety, prudential accountability, ethics and risk management; and former lecturer at Southern Cross University and the Governance Institute of Australia. David is a non-executive director for a few not-for-profit enterprises and has been a judge for the AIHS awards for 3 years.

Madeleine Page

Madeleine is an enthusiastic and innovative emerging health and safety leader. She started her career in H&S after graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety Science (Honours) and went onto to study HR and Psychology to evolve with the increasing focus on psychosocial risk. In 2022, she was awarded the Australian Young H&S Leader award.

Madeleine has been responsible for providing HS&W leadership, assurance and support in a variety of industries and projects including utilities, construction, engineering and government. She is currently the Senior Manager of Mental Health & Wellbeing at KPMG, developing strategies and initiatives to support sustainable high performance. In her work, she brings a passion for developing people-focused H&S programs of work that engage people and support their physical and mental health holistically.

Dr. Aldo Salvatore Raineri

Dr. Aldo Salvatore Raineri is a seasoned expert in safety science and occupational health, with a career spanning over three decades. He currently serves as Head of Courses in Safety Science at Central Queensland University (CQUniversity), where he also lectures and supervises research in areas like criminology, law, business, and public health.

Before academia, Dr. Raineri held senior roles in the Queensland Government, including Director of Work Health & Safety Policy & Legislation, where he played a pivotal role in shaping and implementing harmonised national safety laws. He’s also the Managing Director of Eventsafe WHS Services, a consultancy focused on safety in the live events industry.

His academic credentials are extensive—he holds a Doctor of Professional Studies, Master of Laws, multiple diplomas in occupational health and safety, and qualifications in law, education, and business. Dr. Raineri has made several influential contributions to safety science, particularly in shaping policy, education, and crowd safety practices. He’s contributed to publications on crowd safety and risk analysis and is affiliated with several professional safety organizations.

Cameron Stevens

Cam Stevens is a global leader in human-centred safety innovation. He started his career as a Physiotherapist prior to transitioning into various health and safety roles in high-risk industry, implementing innovative safety solutions all over the world. Cam has a Masters in Ergonomics, Safety & Health from La Trobe University, post-grad certification in AI ethics from London School of Economics and was the inaugural recipient of the Eric Wigglesworth OHS Education Medal. He is the founder of safety innovation consultancy, Pocketknife Group, supporting organisations to leverage data, technology and innovation to improve WHS through better work design and works part time as the safety manager of the Australian Automation & Robotics Precinct.

Nathan Winter

Nathan Winter is an accomplished governance and safety leader with over two decades of experience in occupational health and safety, risk management, and quality assurance across complex, high-risk industries.

He is the Immediate Past President of the International Network of Safety and Health Professional Organisations (INSHPO), where he has played a pivotal role in global collaboration and capacity-building for the OHS profession.

As Director of Nathan Winter & Associates, he provides strategic advisory services in governance, risk, safety, and assurance, helping organisations strengthen their systems and leadership practices.

His career spans senior HSEQ roles, and impactful board leadership positions within the Australian Institute of Health & Safety, where he drove financial turnaround and governance reform.’
